A Letter to CNN's Abby Phillip on “Figuring Out How to Reach Men”
Phillip's comment about "how to reach men" reveals her feminist-inspired gender bias
Dear Ms. Phillip,
I respectfully ask that you take the time to read this letter regarding a comment you made during CNN’s on-air after-coverage of the Trump-Harris presidential debate.
As a brief introduction, I’m a lifelong reader of the Washington Post who nevertheless has long noticed the paper’s anti-male gender bias, provable by its decades-long imbalanced coverage of domestic violence1 and made undeniable by its 2018 publication of the op-ed Why can't we hate men? Since then, I’ve been sending open letters to Post columnists who have written articles that perpetuate this feminist-inspired bias.2
I’m writing this open letter to you in an attempt to open your mind to your own feminist gender bias, a prejudice that is preventing you (and millions of others) from seeing a major factor behind Donald Trump’s successful demagogic appeal to his conservative, anti-woke base.3
And why you’re missing one of the biggest stories in the past 50 years.
Here’s the comment that you made during the post-debate coverage:
“The one contrarian view I will say is that in this moment, the thing the Harris campaign needs, perhaps the most, is to figure out how to reach men. They've got to figure it out here in Pennsylvania. They've got to figure out how to reach Black men. And I'm not sure Taylor Swift helps them with that. It's a totally different ball game that Taylor Swift is in, but they've got to figure that part out.
That you would say the Harris campaign needs to “figure out how to reach men” is evidence that you’re completely blind to the feminist pink elephant in the room, the obvious cause of the voting gender gap that threatens American democracy:
A relentless, hateful, sixty-year feminist campaign of political, legal, and cultural indoctrination directed against men and masculinity.
If you’re not aware of this anti-male indoctrination, or simply refuse to see it, please ACTUALLY READ the aforementioned Why can't we hate men? Post op-ed, where the Post provided a platform for a radical feminist to broadcast to the world a Nazi-like hatred for men.
Do you think that by printing an article that by its very title must be considered “hate speech”, the Post falls short of the true spirit of its “Democracy Dies in Darkness” slogan?
Wouldn’t you object if the article was titled “Why can’t we hate women?” or “Why can’t we hate blacks?”
OF COURSE YOU WOULD!
Ms. Phillip, in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton described many Trump supporters as a “basket of deplorables”. Many journalists and political analysts and Clinton herself said this comment was a factor in her loss to Trump.
Can you think of any ways that sixty years of feminism has treated men as a “basket of deplorables?
If not, please recall the many gender slurs and epithets directed against men and boys for more than five decades: “toxic masculinity”, “mansplaining”, “manspreading”, “man baby”, “male tears”, and my all-time favorite feminist smear, “male chauvinist pig”. For more examples, see here.
Or see my post Feminism is a Hate Movement: In Their Own Words.
Or read a 2018 article by Andrew Sullivan in New York magazine, #MeToo and the Taboo Topic of Nature that described why this feminist hatred and widespread cultural misandry is driving so many men to support Trump. The article ended with the following paragraph:
“Trump understands this dynamic [cultural misandry] intuitively. [Trump advisor Steve Bannon] believed it was integral to the Trump project, and wants the slanted elite discourse on men to continue and intensify [emphasis added]. I think this issue was an under-acknowledged cause for Clinton’s failure. At some point, Democrats and liberals are going to have to decide if they want to “problematize” half the voting population.”
If Kamala Harris and the Democrats have any chance of beating Trump in the upcoming election, they’ll need to, finally, take a hard look at how the Democratic party (and most of Western media) has for years helped to propagate a dishonest, prejudiced, one-sided feminist worldview and how this has led them to almost completely ignore men and boys in their party platforms.
For proof of this last statement, you – and Harris and the entire Democratic party – should read a book that makes an irrefutable case about the Democrats anti-male bias, How Democrats Can Win Back Men: Why Understanding Male Voters and Their Issues is Vital for Democratic Victory and visit a companion Substack, Men and the 2024 Election.
The book examines voting patterns, Democratic strategy, and policy decisions revealing the urgent need for the party to better appeal to male voters in 2024 and in the coming decades and describes what the author calls a “Democratic Disconnect” when it comes to male voters and male gender issues, “… in that the Democratic party cannot even envision the fact that boys and men actually have legitimate needs particular to being male, and therefore neglect to address those issues and address men directly.” This also contributes to the cultural gender divide.
Ms. Phillip, in closing, let me provide a quote that I believe aptly summarizes the current disgust of millions of men who are fed up with feminism and the Democratic party, and the core reason for the voting gender gap:
Kick a friendly dog often enough and eventually you have a mean dog on your hands.
Sincerely,
Stephen Bond

This observation was confirmed by a February 2023 report by The Coalition to End Domestic Violence that described a 10-Year Suppression of the Truth on Domestic Violence by the Washington Post.
I also have posted multiple “What’s Wrong with this CNN Article?” items on my Substack which document CNN’s provable feminist-inspired gender bias.
Because my intent is only to challenge the media’s feminist gender bias, I’ve tried to avoid discussing Trump. I do agree, however, with retired federal judge and January 6th Committee witness J. Michael Luttig: "Donald Trump and his allies and supporters are a clear and present danger to American democracy."
